What is LIC Jeevan Arogya Plan 904?
LIC Jeevan Arogya (Plan 904) is a non-linked, non-participating health insurance plan. Unlike a mediclaim policy, it does not reimburse hospital bills. Instead it pays fixed amounts: a daily cash sum for each day in hospital and a lump sum for listed surgeries and day-care procedures. One policy can cover you, your spouse, children, parents and parents-in-law.
Plan 904 is the revised version of the original Jeevan Arogya 903. LIC’s records show the 904 version with UIN 512N266V02 withdrawn on 1 October 2020; it was refiled as UIN 512N266V03 with updated terms, and Jeevan Arogya is no longer sold to new buyers. Existing policies continue and can be renewed.

How the premium is calculated
Each member has a premium per ₹1,000 of daily benefit, based on age and, for adults, gender. The calculator multiplies this by your chosen daily benefit, subtracts the flat rebate LIC allows on higher daily benefits (₹500 to ₹1,500 for the principal, half that for others) and then applies the mode rebate: 2% for yearly and 1% for half-yearly payment.
Worked example (₹2,000 a day, yearly mode):
| Family | Premium a year |
|---|---|
| Man, 35, alone | ₹4,312 |
| Man 35 + wife 32 | ₹7,575 |
| Man 35 + wife 32 + two children aged 6 | ₹10,206 |
| Man 35 + mother aged 62 | ₹12,299 |
For the couple, half-yearly payment is ₹3,826 per instalment. The chart below the calculator shows the premium for the principal insured alone at different ages.
Tip: parents add the most to the premium. If they are above 60, compare the cost with a separate senior-citizen policy before renewing everyone together.
Benefits in brief
- Hospital cash: a fixed amount for each day in hospital, rising by 5% of the initial amount each year up to 1.5 times.
- Major surgical benefit: a percentage of the surgical sum assured for each listed surgery, subject to yearly and lifetime limits.
- Day-care and other surgery: fixed payouts for listed day-care procedures and for surgeries not on the major list.
- Premium waiver: after a major surgical claim, the next year’s premium for that member is waived.
- Ambulance and optional riders: a fixed ambulance benefit, with term assurance and accident benefit riders available at purchase.
Who is it suited to?
It suits families who already have a mediclaim cover and want a cash top-up for costs a reimbursement policy does not cover, such as travel, lost income or a caregiver. It is not a replacement for a comprehensive health policy.
LIC’s later Arogya Rakshak 906 and Cancer Cover 905 plans have also been withdrawn, so for new cover compare health policies from health or general insurers.

Frequently asked questions
Can I still buy LIC Jeevan Arogya 904?
No. Jeevan Arogya is no longer offered to new buyers. Existing policies can be renewed on their terms. LIC's newer fixed-benefit health plans, Arogya Rakshak (Plan 906), launched in July 2021, and Cancer Cover (Plan 905), have also been withdrawn.
What is the major surgical benefit in Jeevan Arogya 904?
It is 100 times the initial daily hospital cash you chose, so ₹1 lakh to ₹4 lakh per insured member. LIC pays a fixed percentage of this amount for each listed surgery, depending on its category, regardless of the hospital bill.
How much is the premium for Jeevan Arogya 904?
It depends on each member's age and the daily benefit. Our estimate for a 35-year-old man alone at ₹2,000 a day is ₹4,312 a year; adding a 32-year-old wife takes it to ₹7,575, and two children aged 6 bring it to ₹10,206.
Does the hospital cash increase every year?
Yes. The daily benefit rises by 5% of the starting amount each year, up to 1.5 times the original. A ₹2,000 plan can therefore pay up to ₹3,000 a day after about ten years.
Can I claim Jeevan Arogya along with my mediclaim policy?
Yes. Jeevan Arogya pays fixed amounts, not reimbursement, so you can claim it in addition to a mediclaim or employer health cover. It works well as a top-up that pays cash for incidental costs.
Which tax benefit applies to Jeevan Arogya 904?
Premiums qualify for deduction under Section 126 (earlier 80D), not 80C, within the 80D limits for self, family and parents. Since 22 September 2025 individual health insurance premiums are also GST-exempt; earlier renewals carried 18% GST.
