Quick answer

LIC Arogya Rakshak (Plan 906) is a fixed-benefit health insurance plan launched on 19 July 2021 and withdrawn for new sales in FY 2024-25; existing policies continue as normal. It pays a set daily cash amount for hospital stays and a lump sum of 100 times that amount for major surgery, whatever the actual bill. A 35-year-old man choosing ₹5,000 a day pays about ₹10,700 a year, with no GST from 22 September 2025. New buyers need a different health policy, such as a comprehensive indemnity plan.

What is LIC Arogya Rakshak Plan 906?

LIC Arogya Rakshak (Plan 906) is a non-linked, non-participating individual health insurance plan. It works differently from a normal mediclaim. Instead of paying the hospital bill, it pays you fixed cash amounts when a covered event happens: a set sum for each day in hospital, a lump sum for surgery, and smaller amounts for day-care procedures. What you receive does not depend on what the hospital charges.

LIC launched the plan on 19 July 2021 (UIN 512N318V01). LIC withdrew it for new sales in FY 2024-25; existing policies continue as normal. One policy can cover the principal insured, the spouse, children and parents. Use the calculator above to estimate the premium for each member, then add the figures for the family total.

Benefits explained

  • Hospital cash benefit: a fixed amount for each day of hospitalisation beyond the minimum stay the plan requires.
  • Major surgical benefit: a lump sum for listed major surgeries, up to 100 times the daily benefit. At ₹5,000 a day, that is a ₹5 lakh surgical cover.
  • Day-care procedure benefit: a lump sum, 5 times the daily benefit, for listed procedures that need less than 24 hours in hospital.
  • Other surgical and medical management benefits: fixed amounts for smaller surgeries and for hospital treatment of specified illnesses without surgery.
  • Extended hospitalisation benefit: an extra payment when a stay runs well beyond the usual length.
  • Auto step-up and no-claim benefit: the applicable daily benefit rises over time, and a claim-free record adds a further increase, subject to the caps in the policy.
  • Health check-up benefit: a periodic check-up allowance.
  • Auto health cover: if the principal insured dies, cover for the other insured members continues as the policy allows.

How the premium is calculated

The premium depends on three things: who is being covered (principal insured, spouse, child or parent), their age at entry, and the initial daily benefit. The calculator:

  1. picks the yearly premium for a ₹5,000 daily benefit at that member’s age, interpolating between chart ages;
  2. scales it to your chosen daily benefit, so ₹2,500 costs half and ₹10,000 costs double;
  3. applies the half-yearly factor if you pay twice a year.

No GST is added. Individual health insurance premiums are exempt from 22 September 2025. Earlier, 18% GST applied.

Worked example (family of three, ₹5,000 a day):

Member Age Yearly premium
Principal insured (man) 35 ₹10,700
Spouse (woman) 32 ₹8,638
Child 5 ₹3,358
Family total ₹22,696

Each adult gets ₹5,000 a day in hospital cash and a ₹5,00,000 major surgery cover. If the spouse pays half-yearly, her instalment is about ₹4,492.

Premiums rise with age. For a man as principal insured with a ₹5,000 daily benefit, the yearly premium is about ₹7,500 at 18, ₹9,543 at 30, ₹14,700 at 45 and ₹25,600 at 60. A 40-year-old choosing the minimum ₹2,500 a day pays about ₹6,191. The chart under the calculator compares all member types.

Tip: choose a daily benefit close to what a day in hospital actually costs you, including lost income. Too low a benefit makes the surgical cover small as well, because it is tied to the daily amount.

Claims, waiting periods and exclusions

Because benefits are fixed, a claim needs proof of the event, such as the admission and discharge summary and the surgery details, rather than itemised bills. Like other health policies, Arogya Rakshak has an initial waiting period, waiting periods for some conditions, and standard exclusions. Read the policy document before you rely on the cover for a known health issue. Premiums are not fixed for life and may be revised within the limits allowed by the regulator.

Tax benefits

Premiums for yourself, your spouse, children and parents qualify for deduction under Section 126 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (earlier Section 80D) (old tax regime), within that section’s limits. Claim payouts from a health policy are not taxed as income.

Who was Arogya Rakshak suited to?

It was useful for people who:

  • already have a mediclaim and want extra cash for costs it does not cover, such as travel, a caregiver or lost pay;
  • want one policy for the whole family, including parents up to 65 at entry;
  • prefer simple, predictable payouts over bill-by-bill settlement.

It is not a substitute for a comprehensive indemnity policy if you have no other health cover. A single long hospital stay can cost more than the fixed benefits pay. As Arogya Rakshak is no longer sold, new buyers should start with a comprehensive indemnity health policy.

Frequently asked questions

What is LIC Arogya Rakshak Plan 906?

It is a non-linked, non-participating individual health insurance plan from LIC. Instead of reimbursing hospital bills, it pays fixed amounts: a daily hospital cash benefit and lump sums for surgery and day-care procedures. You can cover yourself, your spouse, children and parents in one policy.

How much is the premium for LIC Arogya Rakshak?

It depends on the member, age and daily benefit. For ₹5,000 a day, our calculator estimates about ₹10,700 a year for a 35-year-old man, ₹8,638 for a 32-year-old wife and ₹3,358 for a 5-year-old child, so about ₹22,696 for the family.

How much will Arogya Rakshak pay for a major surgery?

The major surgical benefit is 100 times the applicable daily benefit. With a ₹5,000 daily benefit, that is a surgical cover of ₹5,00,000. The share paid for a particular surgery depends on its category in the plan's surgery list.

Who can be covered under Arogya Rakshak and up to what age?

The principal insured, spouse and parents could join between 18 and 65 years, with cover up to age 80. Children could join from 91 days to 20 years and stay covered until 25. Family members' daily benefit cannot be higher than the principal insured's.

Is there GST on LIC Arogya Rakshak premium?

No. Individual health insurance premiums are exempt from GST from 22 September 2025. Earlier, an 18% GST was added to health cover premiums, so receipts from before that date show a higher total.

Is Arogya Rakshak a replacement for a mediclaim policy?

Not fully. It pays fixed amounts regardless of your bill, which helps with income loss and extra costs, but it does not settle hospital bills directly. Many policyholders keep a regular indemnity health policy and hold Arogya Rakshak as a cash top-up.

Can I claim Arogya Rakshak along with my other health insurance?

Yes. Because it is a fixed-benefit plan, it pays its fixed amounts even if another insurer settles your hospital bill. You only need to submit the documents LIC asks for, such as the discharge summary and bills.

Is LIC Arogya Rakshak 906 still available?

No. LIC withdrew Arogya Rakshak 906 for new sales in FY 2024-25, and it is on LIC's list of withdrawn plans. Existing policies continue as normal, with the same benefits and claim process. New buyers should look at a comprehensive indemnity health policy, and at a term plan such as LIC New Tech Term 954 for life cover.
