Editorial Policy

Why we have an editorial policy

People use our calculators to make decisions that last decades. This page explains how the LIC Premium Calculators Editorial Team researches, writes, builds, reviews and corrects everything on the site, so you can judge how much weight to give our numbers.

Our principles

  • Accuracy first. Plan facts come from primary sources, and every number in an article comes from running our own calculator.
  • Independence. We are not affiliated with LIC or any insurer, and no one pays to influence what we publish or how plans are presented.
  • Clarity. We write for a real person deciding about a policy: plain words, concrete examples, no filler and no hype.
  • Honesty about limits. We state clearly when a figure is an estimate, what is guaranteed and what is not, and when a plan has been withdrawn.
  • Equal quality in every language. Hindi and Marathi pages are written for native readers, not machine-translated, and carry the same numbers as the English page.

Sources we use

We rely on primary and official sources wherever possible:

  • LIC sales brochures, policy documents and plan circulars;
  • LIC announcements on plan launches, revisions, withdrawals and bonus declarations;
  • IRDAI regulations and guidelines;
  • the Income Tax Act and CBDT or GST notifications for tax treatment.

Where an official document is not publicly available, for example for some older withdrawn plans, we use the best available secondary information, cross-check it where we can and say so if a detail is uncertain. We never invent plan numbers, UINs or dates; if we cannot confirm a fact, we leave it out.

How we build calculators

  1. Collect plan parameters: entry ages, terms, premium paying terms, minimum sum assured, rebates, benefit rules and bonus structure.
  2. Implement the premium logic: tabular rates, interpolation between published ages or terms where needed, mode rebates or loadings and tax.
  3. Test: run the calculator at the youngest and oldest entry ages, shortest and longest terms and every payment mode, and compare with sample figures from plan literature or quotations where available.
  4. Explain assumptions: where a result depends on an assumption, such as a future bonus rate, the input is visible and adjustable, with a sensible default.

Writing and review

Every article follows a consistent structure: what the plan or tool is, key facts, eligibility, how the premium is calculated with a worked example, benefits, tax treatment, who it suits, and comparisons with related plans. A second team member checks each page against the source documents and the calculator output before publication.

Updates and corrections

We review pages when LIC launches, revises or withdraws a plan, when bonus rates are declared and when tax rules change. The “updated” date on each page shows the last review.

If you find a mistake, email hello@licpremiumcalculator.net with the page link and details. We investigate every report. Confirmed errors are corrected promptly, and significant corrections to a calculator are noted on the affected page.

Advertising and commercial relationships

We do not publish sponsored articles or paid rankings. If the site carries advertising in future, ads will be clearly labelled and kept separate from editorial content, and advertisers will have no say over what we write. We do not earn commission on any policy.

What we will not do

  • Claim to be LIC or an “official” calculator, or imply any affiliation.
  • Present projected bonuses or market-linked returns as guaranteed.
  • Recommend a specific policy to a specific person; we explain, and you decide.
  • Copy content from other websites.
