LIC sells three child plans in 2026. We compare their ages, premium terms, payouts and the premium waiver rider, using the same child and the same sum assured.
For LIC premium payment online, go to licindia.in and use Pay Direct (without login) with your policy details, or log in to the customer portal or MyLIC app. You can also pay through UPI apps, net banking, cards, LIC's WhatsApp bot or NACH auto-debit. LIC says UPI, debit card and net banking payments carry no charges. The grace period is generally 30 days, or 15 days for monthly premiums.
LIC premium payment online is the easiest way to keep your policy in force. You can pay on licindia.in without even logging in, through the customer portal or the MyLIC app, from any major UPI app, or let NACH auto-debit do it for you. LIC says it charges nothing extra for UPI, debit card or net banking payments, and you get a receipt instantly.
This guide covers each channel step by step, how to get receipts, how the grace period works and what a late payment actually costs, with real numbers. We are an independent website, not LIC; use only LIC’s official channels to pay.
Before you pay: keep these ready
- Policy number from your bond or an old receipt.
- Date of birth of the life assured and your registered mobile number and email.
- The amount due. Every LIC channel fetches it for you, but it helps to know roughly what to expect. You can estimate a plan’s premium with our LIC premium calculator.
GST note: individual life insurance premiums have been GST-exempt since 22 September 2025. If your old receipts showed 4.5% or 2.25% GST, that line no longer applies to premiums paid on or after that date. Our guide to GST on LIC premium has the details.

1. LIC website: Pay Direct (without login)
This is the fastest option if you have not registered on the portal, or if you are paying for a family member’s policy.
- Go to licindia.in and open the online payment option.
- Choose Pay Direct (without login).
- Select renewal premium (the same route is used for revival payments) and proceed.
- Enter the policy number and the other details the form asks for, such as date of birth, mobile number and email.
- Check the policy and the amount shown, then choose UPI, net banking, debit card or credit card.
- Save or download the receipt. A copy is also emailed to you.
2. Through the LIC customer portal
Log in to the customer portal on licindia.in. The dashboard lists every policy you have added, with the next due date and amount. You can select one or more policies, pay in one go, and download past receipts later. If you hold several policies, this saves time and gives you a single record for tax and planning. Not sure whether a payment has gone through? Our guide to LIC policy status check shows how to confirm it.
3. MyLIC app
LIC launched the MyLIC app for policyholders in April 2026, on Android and iOS. After logging in with your portal account you can pay renewal premiums, download receipts, check policy details, take loans and update KYC. Download it only from the official store listing published by LIC. Our LIC app guide explains what to look for.
4. UPI apps and Bharat Connect
Most popular payment apps, including Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm, list LIC under insurance in their bill payment section, and many bank apps do the same through Bharat Connect (earlier called BBPS). Select LIC, enter your policy number and email, and the app fetches the amount due. Pay with your UPI PIN. Keep the transaction reference until the payment shows in LIC’s records, which usually happens quickly.
5. Net banking, debit and credit cards
All of LIC’s online channels accept net banking from major banks, debit cards and credit cards. LIC’s payment page states that UPI, debit card, net banking and Bharat QR payments carry no charges, and that the credit card convenience fee is absorbed by LIC. Some banks also let you add LIC as a biller in net banking and pay from there.
6. WhatsApp bot
Since 9 May 2025, customers registered on the portal can pay through LIC’s WhatsApp number 8976862090. Send “Hi” from your registered mobile, view the policies that are due, and pay by UPI, net banking or card inside the chat. The receipt is generated in the same conversation.
7. Auto-debit through NACH
If you tend to forget due dates, set up NACH (National Automated Clearing House). You sign a one-time mandate and LIC debits the premium from your bank account on the due date. It suits monthly premiums on long plans such as Jeevan Anand 715. Ask your servicing branch for the mandate form, or check the portal for an online mandate option. LIC says NACH is not available for Salary Savings Scheme policies. Keep enough balance in the account; a failed debit leaves the premium unpaid.
Receipts and premium paid certificates
Every online payment creates a receipt with the policy number, amount, date and next due date. Keep these, because you may need them to:
- Prove payment if a policy wrongly shows as unpaid.
- Claim a tax deduction under Section 123 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (earlier Section 80C), if you use the old tax regime.
- Check the premium break-up if you are comparing older receipts that included GST.
Registered users can download a consolidated premium paid statement for the financial year from the portal or the app. The WhatsApp service also offers a premium paid certificate.
Grace period: how long you can delay without a fee
The grace period starts on the due date. During it your cover continues and no late fee is charged. If the life assured dies within the grace period, the claim is paid after deducting the unpaid premium.
Here is how it works for one real premium. For Jeevan Labh 736 at age 30, with a ₹10 lakh sum assured and a 21-year term, our calculator gives these premiums:
| Payment mode | Premium per instalment | Grace period (general rule) |
|---|---|---|
| Yearly | ₹55,505 | 30 days |
| Half-yearly | ₹28,051 | 30 days |
| Quarterly | ₹14,175 | 30 days |
| Monthly (NACH) | ₹4,725 | 15 days |
Yearly mode is cheapest over a full year, because LIC adds a loading for more frequent payments. Our guide on how LIC premium is calculated explains the mode rebate.
Late fees: what happens after the grace period
If you pay after the grace period, the policy is treated as lapsed until you revive it. To revive it you pay all overdue premiums plus interest for the delay. LIC sets this interest rate and revises it from time to time. Recent reports put it at around 9.5% a year, compounded half-yearly; we could not find a single rate published by LIC for all plans, so check your revival quotation for the exact figure.
Other points to know:
- Short delays are usually revived simply by paying the arrears with interest.
- Longer delays may need a declaration of good health or a medical report, at LIC’s discretion.
- The revival window for traditional plans is usually up to five years from the first unpaid premium. Your policy document has the exact limit. Our LIC lapsed policy revival guide walks through the process.
- Revival campaigns: LIC runs special campaigns from time to time, including one in 2025, that offer a concession on late fees for eligible lapsed policies.
- If the policy had already built a surrender value, it may continue as paid-up instead of lapsing outright, with a reduced sum assured. Our surrender value calculator also estimates the paid-up value.
Worked example: what a late payment costs
Amit holds the Jeevan Labh 736 policy above and pays ₹55,505 a year. His premium is due on 20 November 2026, so the 30-day grace period runs to about 20 December 2026. For illustration we assume late-payment interest of 9.5% a year, compounded half-yearly.
| When Amit pays | Interest (approx.) | Total to pay |
|---|---|---|
| 10 December 2026 (within grace) | Nil | ₹55,505 |
| 20 February 2027 (3 months late) | about ₹1,300 | about ₹56,800 |
| 20 November 2027 (12 months late) | about ₹5,400 on the missed premium | about ₹1,16,400, because the next ₹55,505 is also due |
Three months’ delay costs about ₹1,300 and a health declaration may be asked for. A full year’s delay costs about ₹5,400 in interest and leaves him without full cover for that year. For comparison, before 22 September 2025 the same renewal would have cost ₹56,754 including 2.25% GST, so paying on time today saves both the GST and the late fee.
Tip: if you pay yearly, set a reminder 10 days before the due date and pay early in the grace period. If you pay monthly, NACH is the safest choice, because the 15-day grace period is short.
Stay safe when paying
- Pay only through licindia.in, the MyLIC app, LIC’s WhatsApp number, your bank or a trusted UPI app. Never pay through a link received by SMS, email or WhatsApp from an unknown number.
- LIC does not ask you to transfer premiums to a personal bank account or UPI ID.
- Never share your OTP, UPI PIN, card CVV or portal password, even with someone claiming to be from LIC.
- Check that the receipt shows the correct policy number and next due date.
Key takeaways
- Pay Direct on licindia.in needs no login; the portal and MyLIC app add receipts and history.
- UPI apps, net banking, cards, WhatsApp and NACH are all valid ways to pay, and LIC says UPI, debit card and net banking are free.
- There is no GST on individual LIC premiums paid on or after 22 September 2025.
- The grace period is generally 30 days, or 15 days for monthly premiums, with no late fee.
- After the grace period you pay interest to revive the policy, so pay on time or switch to auto-debit.
