Quick answer

To register on the LIC customer portal, open licindia.in, choose Login and then Customer Portal, and click the sign-up option for new users. Enter a policy number, the instalment premium and date of birth exactly as in your policy bond, plus your mobile number and email, verify the OTP and set a password. You can then log in, add more policies and download statements.

LIC customer portal registration takes about five minutes if you have your policy bond in hand. Once registered on licindia.in, you can see all your policies in one place, download premium paid statements for your tax return, check loan and revival quotes and pay premiums online, without a branch visit. This guide walks you through sign-up, login, adding policies and fixing the usual login problems.

We are an independent site, not LIC. Menu names on LIC’s website change from time to time, so follow the labels you see on screen if they differ slightly from ours.

What you need before you start

Keep these ready before you open the portal:

Detail Where to find it Common mistake
Policy number First page of the policy bond or a premium receipt Typing an old proposal number instead
Instalment premium Policy bond schedule Entering the yearly total when you pay monthly or half-yearly
Date of birth As recorded in the policy, not your current ID A different date from the one LIC holds
Mobile number One you use and that is registered with LIC An old number, so the OTP never arrives
Email ID One you check regularly A shared family email

The policy you register with should be one where you are the policyholder (the proposer). For a child’s policy, the parent who signed the proposal usually registers.

How to register on the LIC customer portal

  1. Open licindia.in. Type the address yourself rather than clicking a link from a message. Check that the browser shows licindia.in.
  2. Go to Login, then Customer Portal. On older layouts this sits under Online Services.
  3. Choose the sign-up option for new users. It is usually labelled “Don’t have an account? Sign Up” or “New User”.
  4. Enter your policy details: policy number, instalment premium and date of birth, exactly as in the policy bond.
  5. Add your mobile number and email. Some versions also ask for gender or PAN. Tick the declaration that the mobile number is yours, and click Proceed.
  6. Verify the OTP sent to your mobile number or email.
  7. Set your password (and a User ID where asked), following the rules shown on screen. Note your User ID safely.
  8. Look for the confirmation. LIC typically sends a welcome message to your registered email.

Tip: if the portal says your details do not match, check the instalment premium first. It is the most common error, especially for policies paid monthly through salary deduction or NACH.

How to log in

Once registered:

  1. Go to licindia.in, then Login and Customer Portal.
  2. Enter your User ID, registered mobile number or email, whichever the screen accepts.
  3. Enter your password. Some screens also ask for your date of birth.
  4. Complete the captcha and any OTP step, then sign in.

Use a private device. If you log in on a shared computer, sign out and close the browser afterwards.

How to add more policies

Registration links only the policy you used to sign up. To see the rest:

  1. After login, open the option to add or enrol policies (often under policy or profile menus).
  2. Enter each policy number and the details asked for, such as the instalment premium or date of birth.
  3. Submit and check that the policy now appears in your list.
  4. Repeat for every policy. Where offered, add your spouse’s and children’s policies too.

Check each policy’s sum assured, due date and nominee against your own records once it appears. Group policies taken through an employer or a loan usually do not appear in the individual portal.

What you can do after login

Services change over time, but these have been available to registered users:

Service What it shows or lets you do
Policy status Whether each policy is in force, lapsed or paid-up, with the next due date
Premium history Premiums paid so far and the dates they were credited
Premium paid statement Single-policy or consolidated statement for a financial year, useful for tax
Online premium payment Pay renewal premiums and get an e-receipt
Loan quotation How much you can borrow against an eligible policy, and loan status
Revival quotation The amount needed to restart a lapsed policy
Bonus and claim status Bonus details and progress of maturity or survival claims
Nominee and assignment status Who is recorded as nominee or assignee
Complaints Register a grievance and track it

The premium paid statement helps when you claim the LIC tax benefit under the old tax regime. Our guide to LIC tax benefits explains how much counts.

Worked example: using the portal for tax and a loan

Arjun bought two LIC policies at age 30: a Jeevan Labh 736 with a ₹10 lakh sum assured and a yearly premium of ₹55,505, and a New Tech Term 954 with ₹1 crore cover (non-smoker) at about ₹11,837 a year. Both figures come from our own calculators; compare plans with the all-in-one premium calculator.

For his tax return: he logs in, adds the second policy, and downloads the consolidated premium paid statement for the financial year. It lists ₹67,342 in total (₹55,505 + ₹11,837). If he files under the old regime, the full amount fits within the ₹1.5 lakh limit of Section 123 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (earlier Section 80C), as each premium is within 10% of its sum assured.

For a loan: his friend Rahul holds a with-profit policy with a ₹5 lakh sum assured, a ₹25,000 yearly premium and seven years paid. Our surrender value calculator estimates his surrender value at about ₹1,37,976, so a loan of up to about ₹1,24,178 (90%) is likely. The portal’s loan quotation gives LIC’s actual figure, which is the one that counts. See our LIC loan against policy guide before applying.

Our estimates are approximate. LIC’s figures on the portal are always final.

LIC’s mobile app

On 15 April 2026, LIC launched MyLIC, a mobile app for policyholders built on its DIVE digital platform. LIC said it lets customers manage their policies, pay premiums, track policy benefits, apply for paperless policy loans, revive policies and complete e-KYC. Earlier, LIC’s customer app was listed in stores under other names, and features differ between versions.

Install the app only from Google Play or the Apple App Store, and check that the developer is Life Insurance Corporation of India. Our LIC app guide covers safe setup and how to spot fake apps.

Common login problems and fixes

Problem Likely cause What to do
“Details do not match” during sign-up Wrong instalment premium or date of birth Copy both exactly from the policy bond
OTP not received Old mobile number in LIC’s records Get the number updated at your branch or through your agent
“User already registered” You or a family member registered earlier Use the forgot User ID or password option
Account temporarily blocked Possibly too many wrong password attempts Wait and reset the password; do not keep retrying
A policy is missing Not yet added, or a group policy Add it after login; check group policies with the employer or lender
Page will not load or loops back Browser cache or an outdated browser Clear cache, try another browser or an incognito window

If none of this works, use the contact or grievance options on licindia.in, or visit your servicing branch with the policy bond and photo ID.

Stay safe online

  • Never share your password or OTP. LIC staff and genuine agents do not need them.
  • Type the address yourself. Fake sites copy LIC’s look. Check the address bar for licindia.in.
  • Do not pay through links sent by unknown numbers on SMS or WhatsApp.
  • Registration is free. Anyone charging a fee to “activate” your account is not LIC.

Key takeaways

  • Register on licindia.in under Login, then Customer Portal, using a policy number, instalment premium and date of birth exactly as in the policy bond.
  • Verify the OTP on your registered mobile, then set a password and log in.
  • Add every policy after login so that status, premium history and statements show in one place.
  • Use the portal for premium paid statements, loan quotations and revival quotations; LIC’s figures there are final.
  • The MyLIC app, launched on 15 April 2026, offers similar services on mobile.
  • Most login problems come from an outdated mobile number or a mismatched premium amount.
  • Plan with our maturity calculator or bonus calculator, then confirm with LIC.

Frequently asked questions

How do I register on the LIC customer portal?

Go to licindia.in, open Login and select Customer Portal, then choose the sign-up option for new users. Enter your policy number, instalment premium and date of birth as printed in the policy bond, along with your mobile number and email. Verify the OTP, set your password and log in.

What details do I need for LIC new user registration?

Keep your policy bond handy. You need one policy number, the instalment premium amount, the date of birth recorded in the policy, a mobile number and an email ID that you use yourself. Some versions of the form also ask for gender or PAN. The details must match LIC's records exactly.

Can I see all my LIC policies in one login?

Yes. After registering with one policy, use the option to add or enrol more policies, entering each policy number and the details LIC asks for. Policies of your spouse or children can be added where the portal allows it. Group policies may not appear in the individual portal.

I forgot my LIC portal password. What should I do?

On the login page, choose the forgot User ID or password option. Enter the details asked for, such as your policy number or User ID and date of birth, and complete the captcha. LIC sends the reset link or OTP to the mobile number or email registered with it.

Why am I not getting the OTP for LIC login?

The most common reason is that the mobile number in LIC's records is old or different. Check that you are entering the number registered with LIC, wait a few minutes, and check DND or spam folders for email. If the number is wrong, get it updated at your branch or through your agent.

Can I download my LIC premium paid certificate from the portal?

Yes. Registered users can download a premium paid statement for each policy, or a consolidated statement for all linked policies, for a chosen financial year. It is useful as proof of premium paid for your income tax return.

Is the LIC customer portal free?

Yes. Registration and LIC's online services are free for policyholders. Be wary of anyone who charges a fee to register you or asks for your password or OTP. Use only licindia.in or LIC's official app.
