What is LIC Anmol Jeevan I Plan 164?

LIC Anmol Jeevan I (Plan 164) is a pure term assurance plan without profits. It does one thing: if the life assured dies during the policy term, LIC pays the sum assured to the nominee. There is no maturity benefit, no bonus and no surrender value, which is why the premium is low.

Plan 164 was introduced on 1 November 2003, the day after the original Anmol Jeevan Plan 153 was withdrawn. It was sold until 1 December 2013 (UIN 512N213V01) and followed in 2014 by Anmol Jeevan II Plan 822. If your 164 policy is still running, the calculator above shows what you pay and how long you are covered.

How the premium is calculated

The premium is a rate per ₹1,000 sum assured that rises with age and term, with slightly lower rates for women. The calculator interpolates between published age and term points, then:

  1. multiplies the rate by sum assured ÷ 1,000;
  2. gives a 1% rebate for yearly mode (half-yearly pays half the tabular premium);
  3. adds no GST, as individual life policies are GST-exempt from 22 September 2025. Before that, 18% GST applied to term premiums.

Worked example: a 30-year-old man takes ₹10 lakh cover for 20 years. He pays about ₹4,455 a year, or ₹89,100 over the term, and is covered until age 50.

A 40-year-old woman with ₹20 lakh for 15 years in half-yearly mode pays about ₹4,600 per instalment, ₹9,200 a year.

Tip: cover under this plan ends at 65 at the latest. If you still have dependants or loans beyond that age, check whether you need a newer plan that covers you longer.

Death benefit

If the life assured dies during the term while the policy is in force, the nominee receives the full sum assured as a lump sum. Nothing is paid if the policy lapses or the life assured survives the term.

Tax benefits

Premiums qualify for deduction under Section 123 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (earlier Section 80C) (old regime). The death claim is tax-free in the nominee’s hands under Section 11 read with Schedule II of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (earlier Section 10(10D)).

Who was this plan for?

Anmol Jeevan I suited earners who wanted affordable protection for a fixed period, such as while children were young or a home loan was running. For covers of ₹25 lakh and above, LIC offered the sister plan Amulya Jeevan I (Plan 190).

Anmol Jeevan I vs Anmol Jeevan II

Plan 822 (2014) kept the same idea but changed the cover range to ₹6 lakh to ₹24 lakh, dropped the single premium option and revised the premium rates. Neither is on sale now. For a new policy, compare today’s options with our term plan calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still buy LIC Anmol Jeevan I Plan 164?

No. LIC stopped selling Plan 164 on 1 December 2013. It was followed by Anmol Jeevan II (Plan 822) in 2014, which was itself withdrawn in 2020. Its later offline term plan, New Jeevan Amar 955, has also been withdrawn. Today LIC sells New Tech Term 954 online and Yuva Term 875 through agents.

What is the premium for Anmol Jeevan 164?

It depends on age, gender, term and cover. For example, a 30-year-old man with ₹10 lakh cover for 20 years paid about ₹4,455 a year. A 40-year-old woman with ₹20 lakh for 15 years paid about ₹4,600 every half-year.

Does LIC Anmol Jeevan 164 have any maturity benefit?

No. It is a pure term plan. If the life assured survives the full term, nothing is paid back. In return, the premium is far lower than for an endowment or money back policy with the same cover.

What is the maximum sum assured in Plan 164?

Cover started at ₹5 lakh and had to stay below ₹25 lakh, in multiples of ₹1 lakh. People who wanted ₹25 lakh or more were offered LIC's Amulya Jeevan I (Plan 190) instead.

What is the maximum age for Anmol Jeevan I?

Entry age was 18 to 55 years and the cover had to end by age 65. So a 45-year-old could take at most a 20-year term, and a 55-year-old at most 10 years.

Does Plan 164 have surrender or loan value?

No. Like most pure term plans, Anmol Jeevan I has no surrender value, no paid-up value and no loan facility. If premiums stop, the cover lapses after the grace period, though it can be revived within the allowed revival period.
