What is LIC Jeevan Aadhar Plan 114?

LIC Jeevan Aadhar (Plan 114, UIN 512N109V01) is a whole-life policy built for one purpose: making sure a dependant with a disability is financially looked after when the parent or guardian is no longer there. The parent is the life assured; the dependant is the beneficiary. The plan links to Section 80DDA of the Income Tax Act, which gives a deduction to people who support a disabled dependant.

LIC withdrew the plan on 1 January 2014. Existing policies remain valid, and the calculator helps policyholders estimate their premium and the amount their dependant would receive.

How the premium is estimated

LIC’s original rate table for this plan is not publicly available, and the old calculator circulating online produced results that could not be right (longer premium terms cost more in total). We rebuilt the rates from the plan’s own design: lifelong cover of the sum assured, guaranteed additions until 65, a standard Indian mortality table, a 6% interest assumption and a loading for expenses. Treat the figures as indicative.

Example: a 35-year-old with ₹1,00,000 sum assured and a 20-year premium term pays about ₹3,810 a year, or ₹76,200 in total. Guaranteed additions until age 65 add ₹3,00,000, so the benefit for the dependant after age 65 is about ₹4,00,000 plus any terminal addition.

Example 2: a 45-year-old choosing ₹2,00,000 and 15 years pays about ₹994 a month. The benefit reaches about ₹6,00,000 by age 65.

Tip: because guaranteed additions stop at 65, the benefit grows most for people who join young. The premium chart shows how the cost rises with entry age.

Benefit to the dependant

On the death of the life assured, the claim amount (sum assured + guaranteed additions + any terminal addition) is paid for the handicapped dependant partly as a lump sum and partly as an annuity. This mix gives the family money for immediate needs and a steady income for the dependant’s lifetime. The year-wise table in the calculator shows how the claim amount grows each year until 65.

Tax benefits

Premiums under this plan were meant to be claimed under Section 80DDA (maintenance of a disabled dependant). Claim proceeds are generally tax-free under Section 11 read with Schedule II of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (earlier Section 10(10D)). From 22 September 2025, there is no GST on individual life insurance premiums; earlier receipts may show GST at the rates that applied then.

Who holds this plan today and what should they do?

Families holding a Jeevan Aadhar policy should keep it in force, keep nominee and dependant details updated with LIC, and store the policy document safely with the guardian who will manage the annuity. For extra protection, a term plan can add large cover cheaply. To see what an annuity income could look like, try our pension calculator. If you are considering surrender, check the surrender value calculator first, because you would lose the lifelong cover. The related plan Jeevan Vishwas 136 served the same purpose.

Frequently asked questions

Who could buy LIC Jeevan Aadhar 114?

A person aged 22 to 65 who has a dependant with a disability as defined under Section 80DDA of the Income Tax Act. The policy is on the life of the parent or guardian, and the benefit goes to the dependant.

Is Jeevan Aadhar still available?

No. LIC withdrew Plan 114 on 1 January 2014. Existing policies continue with all benefits. LIC's Jeevan Vishwas (Plan 136) was a related plan designed for the same group.

What are the guaranteed additions in Jeevan Aadhar?

According to the plan literature, guaranteed additions of ₹100 per ₹1,000 sum assured are added for every completed policy year until the life assured reaches 65 or dies, whichever comes first. For ₹1 lakh cover from age 35, that is ₹3,00,000 by age 65.

How is the benefit paid to the handicapped dependant?

On the policyholder's death, the sum assured plus guaranteed additions (and any terminal addition) is paid partly as a lump sum and partly as an annuity for the dependant, giving both immediate funds and a regular income.

What tax benefit does Jeevan Aadhar give?

Premiums were eligible for the deduction under Section 80DDA, which covers expenses on the maintenance of a disabled dependant, instead of the usual Section 123 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (earlier Section 80C) deduction. Check current limits with a tax adviser.

What are terminal additions?

A terminal addition may be paid along with the claim if premiums have been paid for at least 10 years. The rate is declared by LIC, so the calculator does not include it.
