What is the LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship?
The LIC Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme is an education support programme run by Life Insurance Corporation of India for bright students whose families have limited income. It helps them continue studying after Class 10 or Class 12, in government or private colleges, universities, ITIs and vocational institutes.
It is important to be clear about one thing: this is a scholarship, not an insurance plan. You do not buy anything, pay a premium or need an LIC policy. Selected students receive a fixed amount every year of their course.
This page and calculator use the rules of the 2025 scheme (for admissions in the 2025-26 academic year). LIC publishes a fresh notice each year, and amounts or limits can change, so always check the current notice before applying.

General scholarship is for students who passed Class 12 and joined a medical, engineering, graduation, diploma, vocational or ITI course. Students who passed Class 10 and joined a diploma or ITI course also qualify. How the calculator works
LIC pays fixed yearly amounts, so the calculation is simple:
- Check eligibility: marks of 60% or more, family income of ₹4.5 lakh or less, and a regular full-time course.
- Pick the yearly amount for the category.
- Split it into two instalments.
- Multiply by the course length for the total, assuming the scholarship is renewed every year. For the girls’ scholarship, the length is two years.
Worked examples
| Student | Course | Marks | Family income | Result |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | BTech, 4 years | 75% | ₹3,00,000 | Likely eligible. ₹30,000 a year (2 × ₹15,000), about ₹1,20,000 in total |
| B | MBBS, 5 years | 82% | ₹3,80,000 | Likely eligible. ₹40,000 a year, about ₹2,00,000 in total |
| C | BCom, 3 years | 68% | ₹2,40,000 | Likely eligible. ₹20,000 a year, about ₹60,000 in total |
| D | Girl, Class 11-12 | 58% | ₹5,00,000 | Not eligible: marks below 60% and income above ₹4.5 lakh |
“Likely eligible” means you meet the basic conditions. Selection still depends on merit, family background and the number of seats in each LIC division.
Tip: keep your income certificate current and issued by the competent authority. Most rejections happen because of missing or outdated income proof, not marks.
How to apply
Applications are accepted only online through LIC’s official website during the application window. After you submit, you receive an acknowledgement email. Further contact comes from the LIC divisional office named in that email.
Keep these ready before you start:
- mark sheet of the qualifying exam;
- family income certificate;
- proof of admission to the course;
- your own bank account details with IFSC, and a cancelled cheque.
For the 2025-26 cycle the deadline was 22 September 2025, later extended to 6 October 2025. Watch LIC’s website for the current year’s dates.
Renewal and payment
The money is sent by NEFT in two instalments each year. To keep receiving it, the student must pass each year’s exams and keep good attendance. The scholarship stops if the student leaves the course or fails to meet the renewal conditions.
Who should use this calculator
- Students deciding whether to apply, and which category they fall under.
- Parents planning how much of the fees the scholarship could cover.
- Teachers and counsellors helping several students check eligibility quickly.
Planning beyond the scholarship
A scholarship covers part of the cost. For the rest, many families save through a child education policy or a systematic investment. If you are planning for a younger child’s studies, try our LIC child plan calculator, or look at Jeevan Tarun 734 and Amritbaal 774, which are built around a child’s education years.
This calculator is an independent tool based on the published 2025 scheme. It is not an LIC application form, and the final decision rests with LIC.
