LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana is a scheme, not an insurance policy: it trains women aged 18 to 70 with at least a Class 10 pass to work as LIC agents and pays a stipend of ₹7,000, ₹6,000 and ₹5,000 a month over three years, plus commission. With 24 policies a year and 70% of them staying in force, our calculator estimates about ₹3.85 lakh over three years.

What is LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana?
LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana (the Mahila Career Agent scheme) is a livelihood scheme for women, launched on 9 December 2024 in Panipat, Haryana. It trains women, especially in rural and semi-urban areas, to work as LIC insurance agents and pays them a monthly stipend for three years while they build a customer base.
Two points are often misunderstood:
- It is not an insurance plan. You do not buy it and there is no premium, maturity or sum assured. The calculator on this page estimates your income, not an insurance benefit.
- It is not a salaried job. A Bima Sakhi is appointed as an LIC agent, not an employee. The stipend is time-bound, and long-term income comes from commission.

The calculator checks these conditions first. If one fails, it tells you why instead of showing earnings.
How the stipend and commission are calculated
Stipend. Year 1 pays ₹7,000 a month (₹84,000). Year 2 pays ₹6,000 a month (₹72,000) only if at least 65% of the policies you completed in year 1 are still in force. Year 3 pays ₹5,000 a month (₹60,000) on the same test for year-2 policies. The maximum is ₹2,16,000.
First-year commission. LIC’s target of ₹48,000 first-year commission for 24 policies works out to about ₹2,000 per policy. Larger policies pay more, so you can change this figure.
Renewal commission. When customers pay their second and later premiums, you earn a smaller renewal commission. The calculator applies it only to policies that stay in force, which is fairer than assuming every policy renews.
Worked example. A woman completes 24 policies a year at ₹2,000 average commission and ₹500 renewal commission per policy, and 70% of her policies stay in force.
| Year | Stipend | First-year commission | Renewal commission | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ₹84,000 | ₹48,000 | ₹0 | ₹1,32,000 |
| 2 | ₹72,000 | ₹48,000 | ₹8,400 | ₹1,28,400 |
| 3 | ₹60,000 | ₹48,000 | ₹16,800 | ₹1,24,800 |
Total over three years: ₹3,85,200, of which ₹2,16,000 is stipend and ₹1,69,200 commission. That averages about ₹10,700 a month.
Why retention matters. If only 60% of year-1 policies stay in force, the year-2 stipend of ₹72,000 is lost. Year 2 income drops to ₹55,200 and the three-year total falls to ₹3,10,800.
Tip: retention is where many new agents lose money. Sell policies whose premium the family can comfortably afford, and follow up before due dates. It protects your stipend and your customers.
How much more do extra policies add?
Keeping ₹2,000 commission, ₹500 renewal and 70% retention:
| Policies a year | Estimated 3-year earnings |
|---|---|
| 12 | ₹3,00,600 |
| 24 | ₹3,85,200 |
| 36 | ₹4,69,800 |
| 48 | ₹5,54,400 |
| 60 | ₹6,39,000 |
The stipend is the same in every row. After year 3 it stops, so commission growth decides whether the work stays worthwhile.
What Bima Sakhis do
A Bima Sakhi explains insurance to families in her area, helps them choose a plan, completes the paperwork, collects or reminds about premiums and helps with claims. Simple, widely sold plans such as Jeevan Labh 736 or the low-premium Micro Bachat 751 are typical starting points. Our LIC plans calculator is handy for quick premium quotes during customer visits.
How to apply
- Open the Bima Sakhi page on LIC’s official website.
- Fill in your name, date of birth, address, contact details and education.
- Upload self-attested age proof, address proof, Class 10 certificate and a photograph.
- Submit the form. The nearest LIC branch contacts shortlisted applicants for training and the agency licensing exam.
No application fee has been announced. Be wary of anyone asking for money to “guarantee” selection.
After the three years
Once the stipend period ends, you continue as a regular LIC agent. You keep earning renewal commission on policies that stay in force and first-year commission on new ones. Graduate Bima Sakhis may also be considered for the Development Officer role, as per LIC’s rules at the time.
How to use this calculator
Enter your age and eligibility answers, the number of policies you expect each year, your average commission and renewal commission, and the retention you expect in years 2 and 3. The results show total earnings, total stipend, total commission, year-wise income and a monthly average. All figures are estimates. Actual commission depends on the plans, premiums and LIC’s commission rules.
