What is LIC Jeevan Kishore Plan 102?
LIC Jeevan Kishore (Plan 102, UIN 512N094V01) is a with-profit endowment plan where the child is the life insured. A parent or grandparent proposes the policy and pays the premium. The money is meant for the child’s higher education, marriage or a start in working life, and bonuses build it up every year.
This is the key difference from Jeevan Chhaya 103, where the parent is insured. In Jeevan Kishore, if the parent dies the policy does not pay out, although it can be continued. It is simply an endowment savings plan in the child’s name.
Jeevan Kishore is withdrawn and cannot be bought today. Our source is inconsistent about its launch and withdrawal dates, so we leave them out. The calculator helps existing policyholders check premiums and expected maturity.

How the premium is calculated
The rate per ₹1,000 sum assured goes up slightly with the child’s age and comes down as the term gets longer. For ₹10 lakh cover:
- a newborn on a 20-year term: about ₹41,064 a year;
- a 10-year-old: about ₹53,900 for 15 years, ₹47,548 for 20 years and ₹42,504 for 25 years.
The calculator assumes premiums are paid for the full term, as in the source calculator. Some descriptions mention a limited payment period, so check your policy schedule. No GST is added: individual life insurance premiums are GST-exempt from 22 September 2025. Before that, the first-year premium carried 4.5% GST and later premiums 2.25%.
Worked example: a parent insures a 5-year-old for ₹5 lakh over 20 years.
- Premium: ₹21,558 a year, or ₹1,886 a month.
- Total paid over 20 years (yearly mode): ₹4,31,160.
- Bonus at an assumed ₹40 per ₹1,000 a year: ₹4,00,000.
- Maturity at the child’s age 25: about ₹9,00,000.
Tip: a longer term costs less a year and earns more years of bonus. Starting when the child is younger makes that easier within the 45-year maturity limit.
Maturity benefit
On maturity, LIC pays the sum assured plus all simple reversionary bonuses, and a final additional bonus if one is declared for that year. The bonus field in the calculator lets you test cautious and optimistic rates. Our LIC bonus calculator shows how bonus adds up.
Death benefit
If the child dies after the risk start date, the nominee receives the sum assured plus accrued bonuses. For young children, cover usually starts at a set age or after a set period, and until then the benefit is a refund of premiums. Your policy schedule shows the exact date.
Loan, surrender and paid-up value
Once the policy has acquired a surrender value, you can take a loan against it or surrender it. If you stop paying, the policy normally becomes paid-up with a reduced sum assured. Stopping early usually wastes much of the bonus, so compare the numbers before deciding.
Should you continue, and what to buy now?
For most holders, continuing to maturity is worthwhile because bonus builds up most in the later years. New buyers can look at LIC Amritbaal 774 or compare options with our child plan calculator.

Is Jeevan Kishore 102 still sold?
No. It is an old plan from LIC's 1xx series and is no longer open to new buyers. Our source gives inconsistent dates, so we do not quote one. Existing policies continue normally. For a new child policy, compare LIC Amritbaal 774 or the children's money back plan 732.
What is the age limit for Jeevan Kishore?
The child can be from 0 to 12 years old at entry. The policy term runs from 15 to 35 years, chosen so that the child is between 20 and 45 years old at maturity.
How much premium for ₹5 lakh under Jeevan Kishore?
For a 5-year-old child and a 20-year term, our calculator estimates about ₹21,558 a year, or ₹1,886 a month. Over 20 years the yearly payer contributes ₹4,31,160 and receives about ₹9 lakh at maturity at a ₹40 bonus rate.
What happens if the child dies during the policy?
After the risk on the child's life has started, the nominee receives the sum assured plus bonuses. Before that date, child policies usually refund the premiums paid instead. Check the risk commencement date on your policy schedule.
Can I get a loan on a Jeevan Kishore policy?
Yes. Like other LIC endowment plans, a loan is available against the surrender value once the policy has acquired one. The amount grows with the premiums paid and bonuses attached.
