What is LIC e-Term Plan 825?

LIC e-Term Plan 825 (UIN 512N288V01) was the first term plan LIC sold only on its website. It was a non-linked, non-participating pure protection plan: you pay a yearly premium, and if you die during the term, your nominee receives the sum assured. There was no maturity benefit and no bonus.

LIC launched e-Term on 19 February 2014. It was later withdrawn and succeeded by Tech Term 854. The withdrawal date is reported inconsistently, so we do not quote one here. If you hold an e-Term policy, it continues on its original terms, and this calculator shows what your premium works out to.

How the premium was calculated

The e-Term rate chart gives a yearly premium per ₹1,000 of sum assured for every entry age and for terms of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 years. The calculator reads your age row and interpolates between the term columns, so a 22-year term falls between the 20 and 25-year rates. Then:

Yearly premium = rate × sum assured ÷ 1,000

A few examples from the calculator:

Profile Cover Term Yearly premium
Age 35, non-smoker ₹50 lakh 20 years ₹6,350
Age 35, aggregate ₹50 lakh 20 years ₹9,000
Age 30, non-smoker ₹1 crore 30 years ₹14,600
Age 40, non-smoker ₹50 lakh 25 years ₹13,450

The chart shows noticeable steps at ages 30, 40 and 50. The rate for a 40-year-old is clearly higher than for a 39-year-old, not just slightly.

GST: your renewal premium is now just the base amount. Individual life insurance has been GST-exempt since 22 September 2025. Before that, term plans like e-Term attracted 18% GST, so older receipts show a higher total.

Tip: if you hold an e-Term policy bought at a young age, keep paying. Its rate was locked at your entry age, and a new policy today would be priced at your current age.

Death benefit

On death during the term, the nominee receives the basic sum assured chosen at the start, as a lump sum. It did not increase or decrease over time.

Maturity, surrender and revival

  • Maturity: nothing is payable if you survive the term.
  • Surrender and loan: none. Being a regular-premium pure term plan, e-Term built up no cash value.
  • Grace period: 30 days for the yearly premium. After that the policy lapses, but it can usually be revived within the revival period by paying arrears and meeting health requirements.

Tax benefits

Premiums qualify under Section 123 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (earlier Section 80C) in the old tax regime. The death claim is tax-free under Section 11 read with Schedule II of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (earlier Section 10(10D)).

Should existing policyholders switch?

Usually not. Your e-Term rate is based on the age at which you bought it. A new plan such as Digi Term 876 or New Tech Term 954 would charge for your current age and require fresh underwriting. Consider extra cover only if your needs have grown, for example after a home loan or the birth of a child. Use the LIC term plan calculator to size it.

How to use this calculator

  1. Select the rate category shown on your policy (non-smoker or aggregate).
  2. Enter your age at entry, not your current age.
  3. Enter the policy term and sum assured.
  4. Compare the yearly premium with your premium notice. Small differences can come from rounding and underwriting loadings.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still buy LIC e-Term Plan 825?

No. The plan has been withdrawn for new sales. Existing e-Term policies stay in force as long as premiums are paid. New buyers can look at LIC's current online term plans, Digi Term 876 and New Tech Term 954.

What was the premium for LIC e-Term 825?

It depended on age, term and category. Using the rate chart in this calculator, a 35-year-old non-smoker with ₹50 lakh cover for 20 years paid about ₹6,350 a year. At aggregate (smoker) rates the same cover cost about ₹9,000.

What is the difference between aggregate and non-smoker rates in e-Term?

Aggregate rates applied to smokers and anyone not qualifying as a non-smoker, with a minimum cover of ₹25 lakh. Non-smoker rates were lower but required a minimum sum assured of ₹50 lakh and a non-smoker declaration.

Does LIC e-Term 825 give money back on maturity?

No. It is a pure term plan. If the life assured survives the policy term, nothing is paid and the cover ends.

Is GST charged on my e-Term premium now?

No. From 22 September 2025, individual life insurance premiums are exempt from GST. Earlier receipts for this plan showed 18% GST on top of the base premium, so your renewal amount is now lower.

Which plan replaced LIC e-Term 825?

LIC's next online term plan was Tech Term 854, launched in 2019. Its current online term plans are New Tech Term 954 and Digi Term 876.
