What is LIC Dhan Rekha Plan 863?
LIC Dhan Rekha (Plan 863) is a non-linked, non-participating savings plan that pays back part of the sum assured at fixed points and the rest at maturity. Every rupee of benefit is guaranteed at the start, because the plan earns guaranteed additions instead of bonuses.
LIC launched it on 13 December 2021 (UIN 512N343V01) and withdrew it on 1 January 2025. If you hold a policy, nothing changes: the money-back dates and amounts in your bond still apply. The calculator above shows the premium and full payout schedule.

How the premium is calculated
Premium is a rate per ₹1,000 sum assured that depends on age, term, premium type and gender. The calculator uses the rate bands from the original page and interpolates between them. For limited premium, half-yearly, quarterly and monthly modes carry a small loading.
Example 1: a 30-year-old man chooses a 20-year term with ₹10 lakh sum assured. He pays about ₹1,03,232 a year for 10 years, or ₹10,32,320 in total. Choosing single premium instead costs about ₹7,20,550 once.
Example 2: a 30-year-old woman picks a 30-year term with ₹10 lakh cover and pays about ₹73,126 a year for 15 years.
Tip: there is no GST on these premiums from 22 September 2025. Before that, the first-year premium carried 4.5% and later years 2.25%.
Money back and maturity
| Term | Money back | Paid at maturity |
|---|---|---|
| 20 years | 10% at years 10 and 15 | 80% + guaranteed additions |
| 30 years | 15% at years 15, 20 and 25 | 55% + guaranteed additions |
| 40 years | 20% at years 20, 25, 30 and 35 | 20% + guaranteed additions |
In our model, guaranteed additions accrue from the sixth policy year at ₹50 per ₹1,000 (years 6–20), ₹55 (21–30) and ₹60 (31–40). For Example 1, that is ₹7,50,000 of additions. The man receives ₹1 lakh each at years 10 and 15, and ₹15,50,000 at maturity: ₹17,50,000 in all. Example 2 returns ₹23,00,000 over 30 years.
Death benefit
The nominee receives the sum assured on death plus guaranteed additions accrued to date. Money back already paid is not deducted. For ₹10 lakh basic cover, the sum assured on death is at least ₹12.5 lakh.
Loan, surrender and tax
A policy loan and surrender value are available after the minimum period in the policy terms. Premiums qualify under Section 123 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (earlier Section 80C) (old regime). Maturity is generally tax-free under Section 11 read with Schedule II of the Income-tax Act, 2025 (earlier Section 10(10D)) if the yearly premium stays within 10% of the sum assured; single premium policies usually fail this test, so their maturity can be taxable. For policies issued after 1 April 2023, the ₹5 lakh aggregate premium limit also applies.
Who should hold it, and alternatives
Dhan Rekha suits people who value fixed dates and fixed amounts more than high returns. The IRR is modest, roughly 3.5–5% depending on the option. The closest guaranteed plan, LIC Bima Ratna 764, has also been withdrawn. For a money-back plan still on sale, see New Money Back Plan 720, or compare money-back products with the LIC money back policy calculator.

Frequently asked questions
Is LIC Dhan Rekha 863 still available?
No. LIC withdrew Dhan Rekha from sale on 1 January 2025. Existing policies continue with all guaranteed benefits. If you want a money-back plan today, look at the New Money Back Plan 720 or 721. Bima Ratna 764, the guaranteed option, has also been withdrawn.
How much money back does Dhan Rekha pay?
On a 20-year term, 10% of the sum assured is paid at the end of years 10 and 15. A 30-year term pays 15% at years 15, 20 and 25. A 40-year term pays 20% at years 20, 25, 30 and 35. The balance comes at maturity with guaranteed additions.
What are the premium paying terms in Dhan Rekha?
You pay for half the policy term: 10 years on a 20-year policy, 15 years on a 30-year policy and 20 years on a 40-year policy. A single premium option is also available for all three terms.
What is the death benefit in Dhan Rekha 863?
The nominee gets the sum assured on death plus guaranteed additions accrued. For single premium it is 125% of the basic sum assured. For limited premium it is the higher of 125% of the basic sum assured and 7 times the annual premium, never below 105% of premiums paid.
Does Dhan Rekha have lower premiums for women?
Yes. The plan had separate, lower rates for women. Our calculator reflects this by rating a woman two years younger than a man of the same age, so a woman's premium is slightly lower.
What return does Dhan Rekha give?
Returns are fixed at purchase. In our calculator, a 30-year-old man on a 20-year, 10-pay policy earns an IRR of about 3.7%, while the single premium version works out to about 4.8%. That is the price of guaranteed cash flows and life cover.
Can I take a loan against Dhan Rekha?
Yes. A policy loan is available once the policy has acquired a surrender value, usually after two full years of premiums for limited pay. Single premium policies become eligible sooner as per policy terms.
